An independent project, built for the grading stack.
Why Rubrica exists
Grading a hundred handwritten exams by hand is slow, and it is hard to grade the last exam in a stack exactly like the first.
Rubrica keeps the roster and the link to each student on the instructor's own computer, and sends answer pages under a random code. The instructor reviews the results and decides what goes to students.
Who built it
Created by Travis Fraser, who began building Rubrica while a Graduate Student Instructor at UC Berkeley Haas.
Rubrica is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the University of California, Berkeley.
Where it stands
Rubrica is in a pilot. The current version, 0.1.10, was released in October 2026 for Apple Silicon Macs. A versioned report describing the software and its early validation is published on Zenodo, and a technical overview is at travisfraser.com/rubrica.
